Air Handling Unit Replacement Project: Sevenoaks Leisure Centre
One of our favourite things about working in our industry is using our skills and knowledge to make life a little easier for others and there’s nothing we love more than getting stuck into a brand new project. When Sevenoaks District Council got in touch and requested our services to solve the problem of two underperforming air handling units (AHUs) at the local Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, we were more than happy to help.
Sevenoaks Leisure Centre is a popular leisure centre in Sevenoaks, Kent, that boasts a range of facilities. Their attractive 25m pool is a popular feature, home to swimming lessons, swimming sessions and fun for all ages, which is why it is essential that this hub of activity keeps running as reliably as ever.
The Process
The easiest solution in this instance was to swap the underperforming AHUs, that served the learner and main pool areas, out with the new and improved range of Dantherms’ Heat Recovery Air Handling Units. We decided that our project start date would be the 13th December and the pools were shut down accordingly so that the replacement task could commence.
To start with, we isolated and disconnected all of the services that linked to the current underperforming AHUs. Fast forward to the 16th December and we had cleared the plant room of the old units, ready for our specialist lift and shift team to move the new units onto the existing concrete plinths.
Luckily, we were able to perform a ‘straight swap’ between the old and new units - meaning that we didn’t have to alter the existing ductwork and pipework systems much at all! However, the new systems were slightly taller and wider than the previous. Because of this, we had to perform some changes to the ductwork connections to accommodate the new units in their new locations. Once these necessary alterations had been made, we reconnected all of the pipework and ductwork services to the new units. From here, they were all ready and prepared for the formal Dantherm commissioning on the 4th January!
